Homemade Chocolate Chips

Have you ever wanted to make some brownies or some chocolate chip cookies but didn’t have some chocolate chips in your pantry ?

Here’s a simple way for you to improvise quickly instead of going to purchase the chips. This is also such a nice way to save on some cash and it’ll only take some few minutes.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO MAKE THE CHOCOLATE CHIPS

HOW TO MAKE  THE HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE CHIPS

All you need to do is to melt the chocolate, stir in the vanilla extract or flavouring of choice. You could use other flavourings such as almond extract and mint extract to complement the chocolate.

This recipe calls for dark chocolate however you could use white chocolate or milk chocolate depending on the kind of chocolate chips desired.

One can use a double boiler or a microwave with bursts of 2 minutes while stirring to melt the chocolate. Pipe little dots onto the parchment paper using a piping bag or zip lock bag with the corner snipped off. The chocolate should still be warm when you start piping.

As it cools, the chocolate chips will have what looks like a light brown coating dusted on them if you will have used dark chocolate. However if the chocolate hardens while piping, just microwave it for a few minutes and continue piping. Transfer the homemade chocolate chips into an air tight container once they have hardened completely.

TIPS FOR THIS RECIPE

  • Working quickly is essential to avoid the chocolate hardening before it’s piped onto the parchment paper.
  • When using a double boiler, make sure sure no water gets into the chocolate as it can cause the chocolate to seize.
